The ._ipod_control file is a hidden folder on iPods containing all of your iTunes music.
Typical problems associated with the ._ipod_control file extension:
One of the most common problems with ._ipod_control files is that it is hidden. When you want to make a backup of your iTunes music the music is stored in this hidden folder but unless you know about it, you won’t be able to see it.
Solutions/Recommendations:
To unhide the _IPOD_CONTROL folder, connect your iPod to your computer as normal. Next, click on My Computer and find the iPod in the list. If _IPOD_CONTROL isn’t showing up in the iPod’s list of folders, go to Tools, Folder Options, and click the View tab. Scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders and make sure that “show hidden files and folders†is selected.
Windows Vista users need to click on Computer, select the iPod, and then click on Organize. Choose Folder and Search options. Scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders and make sure that “show hidden files and folders†is selected.
The music itself is stored in the Music folder which is in the _IPOD_CONTROL folder.
