Explanation of .cwk file extensions:
The .cwk file extension represents a document made in ClarisWorks or AppleWorks productivity suite. A CWK file can be either a word processing document, spreadsheet file, drawing document, or presentation.
ClarisWorks was developed by the Claris Corporation but was later renamed AppleWorks when Apple acquired the Claris Corporation in 1998. ClarisWorks and AppleWorks come in both Macintosh and Windows versions. ClarisWorks has since been taken over by FileMaker.
Typical problems associated with the .cwk file extension:
One of the most common problems with .cwk files is opening them. Unless you have ClarisWorks, AppleWorks or perhaps one of the FileMaker applications, you could have difficulty working with CWK files.
Another problem arises when trying to view older .cwk files in newer versions of the software as the older versions are not compatible with newer versions. For example version 1 cannot open version 2 or 3 CWK files.
Another common .cwk problem occurs when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .cwk files removed by spyware or other processes.
Solutions/Recommendations:
FileMaker Pro program version 7 or under may be able to open .CWK files these files. AppleWorks or ClarisWorks should be able to open the files unless you have version 1 and the files you want to open are version 2 or above.
If you want to transfer a CWK file from a Macintosh computer and open it on a Windows computer (that has the appropriate software installed) you can do so as CWK files are compatible with both Macintosh and Windows versions of the software. You should make sure that each computer is running the same version to avoid compatibility issues. You can also save files using the .RTF, .SYLK, and .TEXT file extensions making them compatible with other word processors (RTF), spreadsheets (SYLK), and database (TEXT) applications.
You should run a registry cleaner if you are experiencing .cwk errors such as missing DLLs or broken file associations.
