Explanation of .djvu file extensions:
The .djvu file extension represents an image compression technology that was originally developed at AT&T. This technology allows for Internet distribution of high resolution images such as digital documents, scanned documents, and photographs which is now used by LizardTech.
DjVuLibre is an open source implementation of DjVu which includes viewers, decoders, browser plugins, simple encoders, and utilities. A Windows program, WinDjView, can be used to view and print DjVu documents. WinDjView is based on the DjVuLibre library.
DjVu compression technology allows for the compression of color documents 5 to 10 times more than either .JPEG or .GIF compression. For black and white documents, the technology compresses 3 to 8 times more than .TIFF compression.
