.FX File Type
File extension: FX or .fx
Author of the .fx file extension: Microsoft / Corel
Category: Miscellaneous files
Programs that use the .fx file type: DirectX / Corel WordPerfect Office
Explanation of .fx file extensions:
The .fx file extension represents either a DirectX 3D object or a WordPerfect template.
DirectX is a set of Application Program Interfaces that allows developers to design applications that will interact with a computer’s hardware even when the designer doesn’t know what the hardware actually is. In the case of DirectX3D objects, developers can create 3D objects and programs that run on computers regardless of the type of graphics accelerator card is installed. Most 3D accelerator cards support this technology.
WordPerfect uses the .fx file extension for templates.
Typical problems associated with the .fx file extension:
One of the most common problems with .fx files occurs if your hardware does not support Direct3D – though most do. Another problem occurs if DirectX is not installed on your computer.
If you do not have WordPerfect or a compatible word processor, you will not be able to open template files created in WordPerfect.
Another common .fx problem occurs when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .fx files removed by spyware or other processes.
Solutions/Recommendations:
Make sure that you have DirectX installed on your computer and that it is up-to-date. You can update DirectX through the Windows Update feature on your computer.
If your graphics accelerator card is one of the few that doesn’t support Direct3D, check the manufacturer’s website to see if a firmware update adds this support.
You will need either WordPerfect or a compatible program to open .fx template files.
