.MOD File Type
File extension: MOD or .mod
Author of the .mod file extension: Various
Category: Audio files / Developer files / miscellaneous files
Programs that use the .mod file type: Various audio tracking programs / GraphiSoft ArchiCAD / various Fortran compilers / JVC Everio Utility / and various CAD programs
Explanation of .mod file extensions:
The .mod file extension is used for numerous purposes. As a music module format, the MOD file contains musical notes (much like MIDI files) as well as sound samples for different instruments. You can assign these sound samples to different tracks and play them back through the musical score. Most audio tracking players recognize the MOD format.
MOD files are used in a variety of CAD programs including ArchiCAD, CADdy ++, and CATIA among others.
Fortran MOD files are developer files representing compiled program files that were written in the Fortran programming language. A MOD file is created for each module declaration found within the Fortran source code. Related procedures and data are grouped together in a single MOD file that other program units can reference. This type of file is considered an “intermediate†file. They are not meant to be opened manually. Fortran compilers such as G95, Intel Fortran Compiler, Silverfrost FTN95, Absoft Pro Fortran, and Lahey/Fujitsu Fortran for Windows can reference them.
Another type of MOD file involves video files that were captured with a JVC EVERIO digital camcorder. These files use MPEG2-PS encoding (video) and Dolby Digital AC-3 encoding (audio). These files can be opened and converted to different formats with video camera’s software.
Typical problems associated with the .mod file extension:
Because so many different programs use MOD files for various reasons, there isn’t one single common problem. Problems can vary depending on the format you have, the software you are using, and other issues.
In general, common .mod problems can involve file corruption, missing file associations, and invalid instruction in the registry.
Solutions/Recommendations:
If you are having MOD problems, you will need to focus on the type of MOD file you have and troubleshoot from there. For example, if you are having MOD problems related to your JVC digital camera, you may need to update your camera’s software or install a patch from JVC. If you are having trouble with CAD-type MOD files, your first stop will be to check your CAD software’s website for troubleshooting assistance.
For general MOD errors such as file corruption or broken file associations, you can use a registry cleaner to clean up the Windows registry.
