.PIP File Type
File extension: PIP or .pip
Author of the .pip file extension: Microsoft Corporation
Category: Miscellaneous files
Programs that use the .pip file type: Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Visual Basic, and Microsoft Word.
Explanation of .pip file extensions:
The .pip file extension contains personalized menu and toolbar settings for the applications in the Microsoft Office suite. Microsoft Office programs allow users to customize their menus and toolbars. When they use the "Personalized Menus and Toolbars" feature, the settings are stored in PIP files. This feature evaluates the menu commands a user uses and displays the most frequently used items on a shortened version of each menu. The menu expands when the user clicks a menu and hovers the mouse over the menu title.
Toolbars also reflect a user’s most frequently used tools.
Typical problems associated with the .pip file extension:
One of the most common problems with .pip files is when the menu doesn’t automatically display when the mouse hovers over the menu title. When this happens, users may not be able to get to the menu command they want.
Another common .pip problem occurs when the default PIP files have been renamed. Office will try to reinstall itself and will generate errors.
Solutions/Recommendations:
To make sure the menu expands to show all menus when hovering with the mouse, you must enable the “Show full menus after a short delay†option. To do this, go to the View menu, choose Toolbars, click Customize, and click the Options tab.
If Office installer tries to reconfigure itself, you will need the installation disc and you will need to allow it to go through its reconfiguration process by clicking OK.
Run a registry cleaner to resolve many common .pip errors.
