Explanation of .pls file extensions:
The .pls file extension is used by a variety of media players as a generic playlist for audio files. These files are also used to redirect OGG Vorbis files though this is not the main purpose of the file type.
Typical problems associated with the .pls file extension:
One of the most common problems with .pls files is that most media players can play them however your favorite media player may not be the one that opens when you double click a saved .pls file directly.
Another common .pls problem occurs when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .pls files removed by spyware or other processes.
Solutions/Recommendations:
First, if you have saved a .pls file and want to access it directly (such as if it’s saved to your Desktop) and find that some other media player opens it, you can change the default file association so that your favorite media player is the one that opens .pls files. To do this, right click on the .pls file. Choose “Open with.†Now, scroll through the various media players until you find your favorite one. Finally, place a check mark in the box that will make this program the default application for all .pls files.
To redirect OGG files, you can use a standard text editor to create PLS files with a single line containing the full URL to the .OGG file. For example, a file titled sample.pls might contain the following line as its only entry: http://mysamplewebsite.com/sample.ogg. When uploading, you must use the ASCII mode for uploading PLS files and use binary mode for uploading OGG files. In addition, you must make sure that the server has the MIME type set to “application/ogg†for the OGG file extension and set to “audio/x-scpls†for the PLS file extension.
