File extension: QFX or .qfx
Author of the .qfx file extension: Intuit
Category: Data files
Programs that use the .qfx file type: Quicken
Explanation of .qfx file extensions:
The .qfx file extension stands for Quicken Financial Exchange. This is a format used importing financial data into Quicken financial software. This file type usually includes transactions, account balances, and other related information.
Many financial institutions can generate QFX files. This allows users to download their financial data from the Internet with Quicken's Web Connect feature and import it directly into Quicken.
Typical problems associated with the .qfx file extension:
One of the most common problems with .qfx files is that occasionally the data is not automatically imported into the software. This can happen if the file association has been broken, the wrong file has been downloaded, or if the temporary Internet folders is full.
Another common .qfx problem occurs when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .qfx files removed by spyware or other processes.
Solutions/Recommendations:
Make sure that you have downloaded the correct file type from your financial institution. Most financial institutions offer several different data types to accommodate different brands of money management software. For example, Microsoft Money users will use a different format.
Next, make sure your file association is still set to have Quicken open QFX files. You can right-click a QFX file and choose Properties. You should see Opens With Quicken listed.
If you have downloaded a QFX file but Quicken doesn’t seem to be updating, the temporary Internet folder may be full which can prevent a complete download. Empty this folder by going into Internet Explorer and choosing Tools, Internet Options. Find the Browsing History section and click Delete. Now go to Temporary Internet Files and click Delete Files.
