Scan for File Extension Errors File extension: STB or .stb

Author of the .stb file extension: AutoDesk

Category: Miscellaneous

Programs that use the .stb file type: AutoCAD 2004, AutoCAD 2002, AutoCAD 2000i, AutoCAD 2000, AutoCAD LT 2004, AutoCAD LT 2002, AutoCAD LT 2000i, and AutoCAD LT 2000, AutoCAD 2005, AutoCAD 2006, and AutoCAD 2007.

Explanation of .stb file extensions:

The .stb file extension is used by AutoCAD programs for plot style tables. AutoCAD uses two types of plot style tables: color dependent and named plot style tables. The named variety ends with the .stb file extension. STB files can contain information about colors, lineweights, linetypes, screening, and other attributes that objects on a specific layer will inherit when plotted.

Typical problems associated with the .stb file extension:

You must have a version of AutoCAD in order to work with .stb files. These files are stored in the Plot Styles folder. Like any file, .stb files can become unstable or corrupt. This could occur due to an error during a conversion, an unexpected system shutdown, a power surge, bad sectors on the hard disk, or any number of other factors.

Another common .stb problem occurs when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .stb files removed by spyware or other processes.

Solutions/Recommendations:

Because corruption can happen due to a bad portion of the hard disk, run the disk error-checking utility. Go to My Computer and right-click the drive. Choose Properties and click the Tools tab. Click on Check Now found under Error Checking.

Keep your AutoCAD software patched with the latest updates and patches from AutoDesk. In addition, run a registry cleaning utility whenever file corruption or system slowdowns occur. A good cleaning of the Windows registry can solve many errors including file corruption and lost file associations.
